Icy street

We recently had icy rain in southern Ontario, and I'm very glad I didn't experience anything like this:

When I was in Spokane in winter a number of years ago, I remember wondering about the strange sounds that the car tires made. From what I remember, tires had to have chains put on them during the winter-time. Sounds like a great idea.

O.MY.GOD. That was terriyfing!! It had me on the edge of my seat...! I can't imagine how scary and out of control it would feel to be in one of those cars! And how did the firetrucks "rush" to the rescue???

It's so eerie. Everything's so peaceful, except for the occasional "Smash!" or "Heads up!"

Inside the cars though, I'm sure the drivers are cursing, yelling, and generally scared out of their wits.

P.S. Where did that happen? And when?

Portland, Oregon a few days ago I believe. If you click on the video itself, its YouTube page will open with more details.

Chains are a good idea but in some states they're illegal. Maryland is one such state.

That's interesting celticchiq. Plus, I just read that in some areas it's illegal not to have them installed when there's snow on the road.

In some places, there are actually checkpoints where the police stop cars to ensure that they have chains.
